(Scores: 97/100)
I have followed Sol Vikström for a while now, and she is without no doubt a very productive musician, songwriter with her third album ready to be released since 2007. Fairytales And Lullabies continues her fine career, and as I learned to know her music on the Gardenia album she also this time switches between a lot of genres. From rock, pop, electronica and folk music with emotional landscapes, progressive sounds and filmatic contours. Since I started to listen to the new album I discover new things for each time and the more I hear the songs the better they gets! The album opens with Say It, a cool sounding rock song with modern elements. The electonic elements melts perfectly together with nice guitars and cool bass playing, and with Sol..s fine voice on top this sounds really great! So Strange starts emotional, but sparkles off with a more rock oriented style. I like the rhythm on the drums in this, and the switches between the rock parts to the more emotional give the song an own feel. Burn Her is one of my favorite songs! A more folk rock oriented styled song that easily took place in my head with its fine melody. The instrumentation with the violin and the nice played guitar and bass give the song an own identity. This Is My Time sound a bit more experimental with a lot of different sounds. The chorus parts is rememberable and this song grow for each listening. The title track Fairytales And Lullabies is a little jewel, a soft emotional rock song with a stunning melody that get me in a good mood with its fine singing, instrumentation and the mood is just breathtaking! Share Tonight reminds me about a song from the 80..s, and if you take a dose of Blondie, The Cars, U2, Human League and Ultravox you will have a little taste of how this cool rocking song goes! Quietly Crucified shows a more emotional side of the songs on the album, and from the first time I heard Sol..s songs she managed to impress me much with her voice and the way she write the melodies and how she creates to bring forward the warm special mood that touches me in her songs! I Wanna Know opens with a whining sound, a fine rock song with a strong melody and good chorus. I like the guitar in this and the song has a cool rhythm. Sweet Lullaby opens with a dark mood, a beautiful melancholic emotional song with a strong melody and chorus. The violin also give this song the little extra. Letter To Myself opens with some cool sounds, a special song with a fine mood, the piano give the song a great feel and this grow for each time I hear it! Simply Me is a song with vocals, keys, piano and string arrangement, a beautiful song you can sit back enjoy and really dream yourself away from the daily things. I Had My Share is also a very nice piece of a song, the piano and the melody with the vocals on top take this to a top level. Slowly Fading ends this fine third album from Sol Skugga, a great song with a strong melody and chorus. The violin, vocals and the mood in the song is delicate and I want to hear it again and again! Take your time and visit Sol Skugga..s myspace site and listen to her great work!
OH, and I hope you'll like "So Strange" that i just uploaded, I do everything in it besides the bass that Stefan plays =)
